Shed
Image from Pinterest, poetry by me
This is the tenth cycle of the moon's orbital Where like the snake I shed my skin. This is a special day- 10 months I am barren. 10 months have I been healthy without him. A snake can shed but not its eggs- I can do both. The earth has given me my beautiful blood So I may be safe from parasite and predator Even after I have fallen into any trap. Tough skin is needed in this world Especially when you beg your body to shed Before it is ready. With such sharp stones, You could claw yourself from inside out, Emerging a new person, giving birth to yourself, Or who you wished you could now be. The cycle of the snake meets the cycle of the moon Meets the cycle of the tide meets the water of the womb Converging your power inside, so you are finally free. The glue that stuck to your skin is gone, The diamond scales endure any thrown stones, They glance off leaving flakes of memories behind, Not that it didn't hurt- this is simply the process of rebirth.

So well written
